Here’s the latest news on cycling events in the Lewisville / Flower Mound area.

Ride Times Have Changed again

  • The Saturday “Beginner” ride has changed to 9am.
  • The Sunday “Bluebonnet” ride starts at 8am – This is really three rides in one, the advanced group does approximately 50 miles, the intermediate group does 40 miles and the beginner group does 30 miles.  The intermediate and beginner group go straight onto Dixon at Morris Rd.  The advanced group heads south on Morris Rd.
  • The Bicycles Plus rides (Mon. & Thurs) start at 6pm – The intermediate/advanced group does 30 miles.  There is a “Ladies” group that does 19 or 25 (decided by the group).
  • The KOW ride(race) starts at 6pm and is running a slightly different route this year (everything is the same except coming south on Chin Chapel, take the second right after the tracks onto East Jernigan Road then left after a couple of rollers).  Finish lines have been painted on Jernigan (.7 miles south of the turn off from East Jernigan).  You’ll also notice 1K, 500m, 200m markers.  Crossing FM 407 at Jernigan can be a challenge; using Rolling Acres Dr. to get to Chinn Chapel and use the light is advisable.

SB 248: Safe Passing Still needs support
As of 4/3/07 this bill still has not gone to the floor for a full senate vote.  Now is the time for you to get involved if you haven't already. It is very important that you contact your Texas State Senator and voice your support of SB 248.
See for the latest updates and how to contact your senator

The MS-150 ride from Frisco to Ft Worth is the weekend of May 5 & 6th.  We are joining forces with the corporate team of Frito-Lay and Pepsi (better known as the Cheesy Riders).  You’ll get a free jersey by joining their group (as of yesterday they had 39 remaining)  There’s still plenty of time to signup and start collecting your donations to a very worth cause.  The entry fee remains at $35 until April 16th.  Cheesy Riders Website                MS-150 Website

Mileage Update
Congratulations to Raynelle!  She’s the first one in the club to hit the 2000 mile mark for the year.  The club is now at 13,573 miles for the year and well on our way to 60,000 miles for the year.  This ranks us as 29th in the nation and 5th in the nation in terms of total mileage.  We are averaging 848 miles / rider.  If you haven’t started tracking your miles on, please do so.  It’s a lot of fun and doesn’t cost a dime.

Help Wanted!
I know we’ve got lots of talented and opinionated folks in the club.  Let’s hear you.  We need articles for the website and newsletter.  Please e-mail myself or BikingKen and we’ll get them published for you.  If you’re really interested we’ll show you how to publish them yourself.
